Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We have been in business for 33 years.
What is your primary product or service?
We sell and install carpet, hardwood, sheet vinyl, and laminate floor covering, commercial and residential. We also do repairs.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My degree is in psychology and math. which reflects my interest in the psychological and emotional effects of the home or work environment on individuals, and the practical application of providing the product and service with precision.
After college, I was a buyer of fine jewelry and already had a retail background for about 6 years. I met a sales rep from a local distributor who convinced me to sell his sample line of carpet. I became so interested in selling carpet that I left my job as a buyer. I realized that it was easier for my customers to shop for flooring in their homes with their lighting, furniture, and decor, and most important, the relaxed setting of their homes. I bought a van and greatly expanded my sample line, and included hardwood, vinyl, and laminate flooring. I also began to buy mill-direct and acquired many commercial and government jobs so that I can get sharper pricing from the mills. I kept my overhead low and stayed small enough to maintain direct communication with my customers. Staying in touch with my customers is the most enjoyable aspect of my work!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We sell high quality products, but our prices are affordable because our overhead is very low. We can accommodate almost any budget. Our business is very customer-oriented, and the installers and I strive for customer satisfaction. Every one of our customers is treated like a family member, and I find the flooring that makes them very happy. We take our work very seriously and do not compromise this principle, regardless of size or cost of the job.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We are a shop-at-home service and travel all over the State of NJ, so our "locations" are "infinite". I will never get too large to accommodate our customers in a sincere, personable manner. If that were to happen, my business would not be recognizable. I am very happy at this level of business, and most importantly, so are my customers.
Provide detailed directions to your location

What type of payments do you accept?
Checks, MC/VISA, Amex, Discover, and even cash.
Which areas do you service?
All over NJ.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I am the owner and operator of my business, and I am blessed with the best installers in the industry!
What are your hours of operation?
Our hours are whatever is convenient for you. We have even made appointments at midnight to accommodate those on the late shift.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
I am elated when the job is done and a customer tells me they LOVE their floor and how good they feel in the rooms. It should be an emotional high. That's what it's all about. Then I know I was successful at achieving my goal of the home environment having a positive effect on the customer, and that effect will likely stay with them for over a decade.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
There are so many, but this one comes to mind:
Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
